Very decorative piece- it’s Hindu or Asian style . The hook needs to be change., otherwise in good vintage condition. -normal wear sign due to age on the finish ( see photos) -some patina .

Beautiful hand painted large Limoges plate depicting a fruit still life scene. Thick gilt trim on the lovely detailed edge. Signed on front. Marked on underside AK CD Limoges France. The marking indicates that this plate was produced by Klingengerg and Dwenger in France for Limoges sometime between 1880-1910.

Presented is a rare wall map of San Francisco by W. Bashford Smith. Published in San Francisco in 1915, this map indicates streets and city districts, and, most notably, shows the site of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, with a smaller guide to “Exhibit Palaces.” The map is printed in black and white and is surrounded by a large index of city street names. Based on OCLC records, this map was issued in at least two sizes: a smaller sheet map and a larger wall map on rollers, as seen here.

In 1915, San Francisco hosted the world’s fair called the Panama-Pacific International Exposition. The expansive fair stretched along two and a half miles of waterfront property. The fair celebrated a great American achievement– the triumphant completion of the Panama Canal. It also highlighted San Francisco’s grandeur and successful rebuild after the terrible earthquake of 1906. Nine years earlier, San Francisco experienced one of the worst national disasters to date– a 7.9 magnitude earthquake and resulting fires that destroyed over 80% of the city. The city overcame great challenges to rebuild and welcome the world by the time the Exposition opened in 1915.

Between February and December 1915, over 18 million people visited the fair. Fairgoers attended scientific and educational presentations, explored international pavilions, and enjoyed displays of advancements in science, art, racing, and technology. The Panama-Pacific International Exposition was the first world’s fair to demonstrate a transcontinental telephone call, to promote wireless telegraphy, and to endorse the use of the automobile.

CONDITION:
Very good condition. Wall map, printed in black and white, on wooden rollers.Paper is healthy. Light toning. Creasing to margins, from past use and storage as a rolled map. Scattered tiny black spots, contained mostly to the index and outer margins.

Map has been artfully mounted, hanging, inside a custom wooden frame, with linen mats, and UV Plexiglas. Framed Dimensions: 39 1/2″ H x 45 1/2″ W x 3 1/4″ D.

Presented is a hand-colored, engraved folding map titled “New Map of the City of New York With Part of Brooklyn & Williamsburg” by J. Calvin Smith. The map was issued bound in the booklet titled “A Guide to the City of New York; Containing an Alphabetical List of Streets, &c. Accompanied by a New and Correct Map.” This original folding booklet is framed alongside the map, at top left. The map was engraved on steel by Stiles, Sherman & Smith and published by Tanner & Disturnell out of New York in 1840.

This map shows Manhattan bordered by the Hudson River, Brooklyn, and the area of Williamsburg. Complete with vibrant hand-coloring, the map details city blocks and labels points of interest. The city’s ports are all labeled, as well as ferry lines with distances noted in yards. At top right is a color-coded key denoting development within the city, railroad lines, ward boundaries, lines of fire limits, public buildings, and distances from city hall in half miles. At top right is a decorative cartouche depicting a western explorer with a compass in-hand, posed next to a Native American and American eagle. This is an excellent early example of the developing city, with clear distinctions of newly developed buildings and a view of the foundational city structure.

CONDITION:
Overall very good condition. Map has reinforcements and repairs at folds with a few minor losses, as well as faint previous owner’s markings. Overall very good condition considering age and use, with minimal fold lines, quite vibrant coloring and minimal staining. Booklet includes original cloth covers and printed paper label. Somewhat worn with staining to covers, though it has been preserved and included in the frame at top left. The map has been removed from booklet and framed according to conservation standards in a custom-built archival frame. Framed dimensions: 30″ H x 27 1/2″ W x 3″ D.
