Hand knotted in wool originating from Turkey circa 1900-1910, this antique rug connotes a traditional Kurdish rug design with a coarse, lush knotting in the richer hues cordoned off by fine embroidered stripes of white at the seams. The subtle definition this technique lends the richer gold, red, navy, and blue hues offers a distinction and natural complement to the movement in the striped pattern, balancing the emphasis of the tribal ram’s horn motifs in the central field. The latter motif, a celebrated symbol believed to signify themes of strength, protection, and fertility in varied cultural interpretations, enjoys a sharp definition that has been well maintained in this antique rug’s tenure; a unique traditional rug among the Kurdish favorites in the Antique & Vintage rug collection from Rug & Kilim.

This Antique and Rare small Tribal Caucasian Kuba Kilim stands at 2’29” by 1’41” 27.5″ h by 17″ w) and dates back to the late 19th century. With a captivating blend of bold geometric patterns and vibrant colors, this South Caucasus kilim features a large design with central stripes surrounded by free-standing diamond device against a backdrop of madder red, blue brown and mustard.
This piece exhibits signs of previous restoration. Please refer to the images for further examination.
