Antique French writing desk or side table made in the style of Louis XVI, sourced from Provence, France. Beautifully hand-crafted from solid walnut wood featuring a 3’2″ long rectangular top. The wood showcases a naturally aged patina with beautiful walnut grains. The desk is fronted with one large storage drawer constructed with dovetail joins and a metal knob. The desk is raised on elegant fluted legs ending on toupie feet. Solid and stable with excellent joinery and craftsmanship with a Traditional French Louis XVI profile.

– Condition: The desk has been structurally restored. Excellent joinery and craftsmanship with age-appropriate wear and natural warping.

This splendid piece probably began life as a railroad ticket counter. It is designed like other ticket counters of the period. More recently it was used as a drafting table at an engineering firm. It is 95” wide and 31” deep. The height from the floor to the lowest level of the writing area in front is 43.5”. At the back the slope rises to 45”. With the superstructure shelf the height is 60”.

A rare vintage Dixie Campaign Desk Chair combo in just the right shade of light blue;
Not a childish shade of baby blue, but an updated, sophisticated, Benjamin Moore shade of “Breath of Fresh Air 806”. A light blue with a very subtle touch of grey.

Features four dovetailed drawers that are sturdy and pull in and out effortlessly.
Each drawer pull is polished brass with a unique black original interior finish.

The set had been professionally restored; sanded, primed and painted with two coats of gloss paint.
Very clean inside and out.

In addition to the desk is a beautiful rare matching chair that is newly upholstered in a cream colored Swiss Dot Sateen.

A 19th Century Victorian 5 drawer Davenport Desk with large storage cabinet. Features 2 drawers on left side and 2 drawers on right side, a large two doors storage cabinet with a door on each side. The front drawer is very large and measures 22″ in width x 16.5″ in depth and x 2″ in height.

ABOUT

A rare Director’s Desk by Ernest Igl for Wilhelm Wendl, Germany. The design truly resembles the ethos of the seventies, a bright and bold era. The writing desk feels retro, without clashing with contemporary interiors. Ernest Igl focused on functionality combined with an aesthetically pleasing design for daily use, seen in the playful composition of curved lines and round shapes.

The body of the desk is entirely made of molded fiberglass and lacquered in white. The push up writing surface reveals a large storage compartment. A switch inside can lock and unlock the drawers. The top aluminum panel has a clock, large ceramic inset tray, two round ceramic dishes and five ceramic pen holders. The desk features six drawers with ample space and a large aluminum foot pad.

CONDITION Good. Wear consistent with age and use. Two minor scratches in front center, one minor scratch back side center, small round chip base in the back. Minor scuff. Storage compartment lid key hole missing. Right side storage compartment lid touched up on the inside. Inside locking mechanism locks two drawers on the right and one on the left only.

HISTORY

Ernest Hofmann (1920-2001)

Hofmann, born in Prague in 1920, studied graphic arts in his hometown. Hofmann firstly worked as an illustrator, graphic artist, and cartoonist for well-known schoolbook publishers. In 1962, they moved to Rosenheim, which marked the beginning of Hofmann’s more design orientated career.

In 1954, Hofmann changed his last name “Igl”. He was a designer, sculptor, illustrator, and inventor and designed everything from a harvester machine to office appliances, a microscope, and rubber boots. His carreer includes an impressive number of product.

The desk was made in the 1970s, produced by the well-known Danish manufactory Omann Jun. Model no. 75.

The structure and the top are covered with teak veneer. The legs are made of solid wood, perfectly integrated into the construction of the desk. Surface after refreshing. On the front, the desk has six capacious drawers. At the back of the furniture there is a versatile bar and practical recesses. Key included.

Condition: Desk surface after refreshing. Visible minor scratches, dings or losses in the veneer which have been filled. Larger signs of use are always shown in the photos. Product ready for direct use.
