CHEN Yiching (Taiwan, 1975), a specialist in Nihonga, a traditional form of Japanese painting, uses all the resources of this delicate aesthetic language to express her poetry and translate her perceptive, emotional experience of nature. Nihonga is a technique that originated in China during the Tang dynasty and had such an influence on Japanese art that, after numerous Japanese innovations in the 16th and 17th centuries, it became a traditional art form. Mastering this technique requires many years of practice and exceptional expertise in using natural pigments, mother-of-pearl, and gold and silver leaf. Since 2007, CHEN Yiching has lived and worked in Paris (France), where she runs Nihonga workshops at the Guimet Museum (Musée National des Arts Asiatiques-Guimet).
