Noomi Backhausen (1938-2011) started as an apprentice painter at Søholm Keramik immediately after having finish school. She was educated at the ceramics department at the School of Arts & Crafts (Kunsthåndværkerskolen) from 1959 to 1962 and ran her own studio from 1962 to 1964. From 1966 she was re-employed by Søholm Keramik and worked there until 1990. She continued to work in her own studio in Bornholm.
