We love this service for its bold, elegant, robust Italian design, typical of the 1970s. Curvacious, chunky, innovative, attractive, lovely to use and to hold – it’s got it all.
Bucci designed ceramics for high quality manufacture. During the 1970s, he produced this ‘budget’ household crockery service for mass production which proved very popular. This set can be viewed in the Bucci archive, listed as item 805.
It was produced serially by Arte Ceramica Romana from 1973, to meet demand, with some small changes to shape and finish along the way.
You may like to see our other listing for a matching Bucci soup service including tureen, bowls and side plates.
Some of our images here show the lids of the coffee pot and sugar pot in an upside-down position. See the closer images for correct position.
All the lids and indeed the whole set are in great condition. Some minor production marks on the saucers, and in the glaze of the coffee pot, as shown.
Marked to base ‘ACR Arte Ceramica Romana, ITALY, Diritti d’Autore’, this was an early version of designer’s copyright in Italy.
