From the collection of Dorothy Waterhouse who operated Boston’s Waterhouse Wallhangings. Wallpapers known as landscape figures were very popular in New England in the early 19th century. This type of pattern has 2 or 3 alternating vignettes separated by vertical stripes, often on a dotted background. Inspired by French designs, these were manufactured in the U.S in the 19th century.
