Kendi of Hamsa shape, richly decorated, probably from the ovens of Si Satchanalai or Sawankhalok, 15/16th century. Kendi were used for very diverse purposes in addition to their main container function to be paid or drink. In Southeast Asia, they were large ritual containers used during ceremonies such as weddings, etc. Hamsa is a swan or a goose, it is the mount of the creator god Brahmâ. It is a symbol of purity, detachment, divine knowledge, cosmic breath and supreme spiritual achievement. Provenance: Succession of the collector and art dealer Claude de Marteau. Sold with provenance certificate. H 17 cm x W 17 cm x depth 12 cm
