Antique folding lady’s fruit knife with mother-of-pearl handle and blade silver with marks traceable to John Yeomans Cowlishaw dated around 1865.
John Yeomans Cowlishaw was born in Sheffield on May 7, 1829, died in 1895 at the age of 66 due to sorrow following the death of his wife Sarah. In the years had built an excellent reputation for his silver fruit knives, he rarely advertised as his knives were advertisements for himself. He learned the business from an uncle who designed mother-of-pearl handles for silver fruit knives.
Good condition, total length 12.5 cm – inches 4.9, blade length 5.1 cm – inches 2, handle thickness cm 1.2 – inces 0.5.
